CSM Michael Grinston selected as 16th Sergeant Major of the Army

Secretary of the Army Dr. Mark T. Esper and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley, announced June 11 that Command Sgt. Maj. Michael A. Grinston will assume responsibilities as the 16th sergeant major of the Army.

Departing SECAF Wilson's nine parallels for leadership

Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson emphasized the importance of the U.S. maintaining its dominance in space during a speech at the 35th Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado, April 9, 2019. Wilson announced her resignation in March after she was selected to be president of the University of Texas, El Paso; her last day as Air Force secretary was May 31, 2019.

24th Air Force hosts NAF-wide cyber competition

Teams compete in offensive and defensive cyber operations during the 2019 24th Air Force Cyber Competition at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland June 3-7. Eighty-three Airmen from 20 units across the 24th AF competed in the cyber capture-the-flag in hopes of having their names etched on the Cyber Cup.

Sailor 360 hosts cardboard boat race at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston

Sailors assigned to Navy Medicine Training Support Command, Defense Health Agency and Navy Medicine Education, Training and Logistics Command completed in a cardboard boat race as part of a Sailor 360 event at the Medicine Education Training Campus. The event was part of Sailor 360, a Navy initiative to develop innovative and creative command-developed leadership programs.

Cross-functional team receives national award for BAMC Secretarial Designee program

Members of the Brooke Army Medical Center Secretarial Designee Cost Analysis Team receive the 2018 Distinguished Team Award from the American Society of Military Comptrollers at the ASMC Professional Development Institute May 29 in San Antonio. The SECDES program gives BAMC the ability to treat critically injured patients who would not otherwise be eligible to receive care at a military treatment facility.

19th Air Force change of command set for June 13

Local chamber members learn of JBSA growth, future plans

Brig. Gen. Laura L. Lenderman, commander of the 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio hosted 16 members of local Chambers of Commerce from cities located near JBSA installations during its first chamber summit at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston on June 4. Chamber members were told about of the future growth of JBSA, to include more than 800 new people this year and how this will affect JBSA and the surrounding communities. This growth will mean new challenges, but also new opportunities, ranging from infrastructure to community initiatives.

SERE training detachment gains new commander

The flags - one for each state of the 50 U.S. states - compliment the landmark Taj Mahal, June 7, 2019, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. The flags on Harmon Drive were officially dedicated by the Air Force Sergeants Association, Chapter 1075, on Feb. 27, 1985.

Installation Health Assessment goes live in the cloud

The status of Air Force installation and mission support programs is now just a click away, thanks to the new Installation Health Assessment tool’s cloud analytics capability. The IHA tool can help assess the overall health of various installation and mission support program areas across major commands. This displays performance, funding and risk with trendlines and base reports. Areas indicated in gray are still under development.
