June 24, 2019 — With hurricane season upon us, more than 115 leaders from federal, state, U.S. territories and the military met at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston June 12 to discuss and coordinate active duty military support to emergency response efforts. AFPC hosts Premier College Interns immersion into Air Force mission
June 24, 2019 — The Air Force’s Personnel Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph hosted its first of four 2019 Premier College Intern Program symposiums May 29-31 with more than 60 interns attending. The 12-week paid intern program is designed to attract full-time college students who are seeking a career in Air Force Civilian Service. Robert Blume, Medical Education and Training Campus Department of Combat Medic Training Officer in charge, Whiskey 2 training team, was on his way home from work on the evening of June 6 when he came upon a chaotic scene in his north San Antonio-area neighborhood.

A federally funded, multi-institutional research group focused on combat post-traumatic stress disorder and related conditions in active-duty military members will soon conclude a monthlong informational campaign at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.
A Mental Health Month initiative, the campaign of the South Texas Research Organizational Network Guiding Studies on Trauma and Resilience, also known as STRONG STAR, strives to raise awareness about the availability of participation in research studies testing treatments for PTSD, said Amanda Flores, STRONG STAR community outreach coordinator.

Changes in GI Bill transfer benefits for National Guard members coming July 12
June 20, 2019 — Provisions allowing Guard members to transfer some or all of their Post- 9/11 GI Bill benefits to their spouse or children are set to change in less than 30 days, limiting the time frame Soldiers and Airmen can transfer those benefits... MORE

National Guard members will soon see changes to the program that allows them to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to their spouse or children that will limit the time frame they can initiate that transfer. Set to go in effect July 12, Guard members will need to have served six years before they can transfer benefits and they must transfer the benefits by the time they hit 16 years of service. Additionally, Guard members extend their enlistment contract by at least four years to transfer benefits.

Army celebrates 244th birthday at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston
June 18, 2019 — Cadences echoed across Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston as 2,000 Soldiers celebrated the 244th Army Birthday with an Army run, early on June 13. Joining the Soldiers in a 3 1/2-mile run were Airmen from across JBSA, as well as civilians, friends and family members. At the conclusion of the run, the oldest and youngest Soldiers present, Col. William Bruce, deputy director for Dental Directorate G-3/5/7, and Spc. Dazhir Walker, a musician with the 323rd Army Band "Fort Sam's Own," joined Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commanding general, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), and ARNORTH Command Sgt. Maj. Alberto Delgado in the cake cutting ceremony.
