Corpsman to chaplain: one Sailor’s journey
August 3, 2017 — Sailors at the Navy Medicine Education, Training and Logistics Command, or NMETLC, held a small and unique commissioning ceremony Aug. 1 at their headquarters at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston for one of the Navy’s newest chaplain selects. Ensign Charles Wilton was Petty Officer 1st Class Wilton before receiving his commission during the ceremony. He worked in curriculum management for the Academics Directorate at NMETLC but has long known his true passion laid with his faith. ... MORE

U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) welcomed Brig. Gen. Richard C. Kim and his family to Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston at a welcoming ceremony held at the historic quadrangle July 27. Kim assumes responsibility as the deputy commanding general and director of operations for Army North. He most recently served as the deputy director, program analysis and evaluation, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, Washington, D.C. The ARNORTH DCG is the eyes and ears for the commanding general and as the director of operations, is responsibility for daily and future operations and exercises. Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan welcomed the Kims to the Fifth Army family and said Kim possess all the qualities to accomplish the Army North mission.

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commanding general of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), pins the Silver Star on Edward Iannuccilli during a ceremony July 7 at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. The Silver Star had been awarded to then-Spec. 4 Iannuccilli but never presented. Iannuccilli, a combat medic in Vietnam, survived a medical evacuation crash April 7, 1970, then, disregarding the flames and exploding ammunition inside the helicopter, made several attempts before successfully rescuing the pilot. The pilot, and several other members of his unit, 159th Medical Evacuation Company, or Dustoff, attended the award ceremony, which coincided with Iannuccilli’s son, Michael, being promoted to lieutenant colonel.

Lt. Col. James L. Pulliam assumed command of the 188th Medical Battalion at a ceremony held at the AMEDD Museum. LTC Pulliam is only the second commander of the 188th MED BN, formally the Academy Battalion Provisional, which was renamed on June 1, 2017. Former commander LTC Amy L. Jackson took command two years ago when the battalion first was stood up as part of an AMEDDC&S reorganization.
