The passing of the colors is key to any change of command ceremony. U.S. Army South Command Sgt. Maj. Carlos Olvera passes the colors one final time to Maj. Gen. K.K. Chinn who relinquished command to the incoming Maj. Gen. Mark R. Stammer.

Medical Education and Training Campus partners with Air Force, Navy for hurricane relief

Air Force,  Navy and civilian volunteers from the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC), 59th Training Group, and Navy Medicine Training Support Center (NMTSC) load donations collected for victims of Hurricane Harvey onto a truck for transportation to the sorting area Sept. 19. In all, the team collected and donated 450 pounds of food to the San Antonio Food Bank, $3,300 in donated diapers to the Diaper Bank, $19,000 in clothing and incidentals to the Salvation Army, and numerous donations to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and homeless shelters.

JBSA mental health providers provide support to service members

Dr. John Kragh Jr., orthopedic surgeon and researcher at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, demonstrates how the Combat Application Tourniquet, or CAT, which is used by Soldiers on the battlefield, works on a simulated limb. Kragh is a renowned researcher and expert on the proper usage and effectiveness of tourniquets in treating wounded service members and injured civilians with limb injuries.

Joint Base San Antonio's unique joint partnership was on full display Aug. 29 at Joint Base San Antonio-Kelly Field Annex as Airmen from the 502nd Air Base Wing and Soldiers from the Texas Air National Guard loaded supplies and equipment to be sent in support of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Soldiers from U.S. Army North are in the Houston area to aid communications support and the search and recovery missions.

Local select basketball team captures national title

U.S. Army North provides support to Hurricane Harvey efforts

Matt Hopper, a telecommunications specialist for Task Force 51, Army North (Fifth Army), Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, conducts a vehicle inspection Aug. 28 of the sentinel mobile communication platform in preparation to provide support to civil authority in Houston from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The sentinel can push information to customers within 15 to 30 minutes of arrival and fully set up within a few hours. TF-51 is deploying to Kelly Annex next to JBSA-Lackland to provide command and control over Title 10 assets, which will also provide support to civil authority. The mission of TF-51 is Army North’s contingency command post to conduct support for Defense Support of Civil Authority, or DSCA, homeland defense and theater security cooperation in order to promote the defense and security of the United States.
