Foulois Firsts
February 28, 2017 — While known for being the “father of U.S. military aviation” with his historic flight at Fort Sam Houston March 2, 1910, Benjamin D. Foulois was also the owner of many other aviation-related “firsts.”... MORE

The first Army aircraft made its first flight March 2, 1910, at Fort Sam Houston with Lt. Benjamin Foulois at the controls. Foulois piloted the Army's first aircraft, Signal Corps Aircraft No. 1, with his first flight lasting only 7 1/2 minutes. He made three more flights that day and on his fourth attempt, the young pilot ended up crashing the airplane.

AFIMSC civilian honored for heroism
February 27, 2017 — Greg Gangnuss, a civilian member of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, was on a voluntary deployment to Afghanistan as a senior environmental advisor for the Ministry of Defense Advisor Program when a helicopter carrying nine coalition members crashed after striking a cable while landing at the NATO Resolute Support Mission headquarters in Kabul on Oct. 11, 2015, killing five people on board. The 502nd Civil Engineering Squadron conducted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for a 144 person dormitory at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Feb. 21. The $18 million dollar facility opened after a 30 month construction in September 2016 when active duty Airmen of the 24th and 25th Air Forces and the 502 Air Base Wing began moving in.
