ROTC Cadet Nicholas Basel (left) from Purdue University and Cadet Gregory Long (right) from the University of Alabama give a presentation to Chilean Army Cadets during class at the Escuela Militar in Santiago, Chile. Thirty-two Reserve Officer Training Course cadets from various U.S. colleges attended the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency program in Santiago Chile from May 14 to June 2. The military-to-military exchange paired the U.S. cadets with Chilean cadets where they shared learning and cultural exchanges.

The CDP welcomes children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years. The CDP provides activities and programs which support children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. The program is accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The CDP is a USDA certified center, providing breakfast, lunch and two snacks each day.

Undersea Hyperbaric Medicine Clinic opens at Brooke Army Medical Center

Army Capt. Kyle Salik is the first patient to receive oxygen therapy at the new Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Clinic at Brooke Army Medical Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston June 20. Hyperbaric oxygen can be used to treat 14 different indicators including wound healing.

NAMRU-SA researchers working on laser therapy project to improve treatment of drug-resistant wound infections

Dr. Nancy Millenbaugh, research chemist and principal investigator for the Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine Directorate at Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio, points to a laser beam that is used in testing the effectiveness of nanoparticle targeted laser therapy in improving the treatment of multi-drug resistant wound infections, especially for servicemembers with maxillofacial injuries from combat. Researchers are hoping to develop a nanoparticle laser therapy that can breakdown biofilms, which contain a protective coating produced by bacteria that make infections in the wound resistant to antibiotic treatment.

City of San Antonio unveils ‘Military City USA’ trademark logo

City of San Antonio Mayor-Elect Ron Nirenberg and others pose with the newly revealed official logo for "Military City USA" during a ceremony at City Hall June 19. “For years many have referred to San Antonio as Military City, USA and now we are officially a registered trademark, a name that no other city can claim.  Our relationship with the military is one of the many reasons our city continues to prosper and we are proud to celebrate this historic announcement,” Nirenberg said. “Thank you to the entire military community, their families, and the service men and women who call San Antonio home.”
