Viva Fiesta!
April 24, 2007
Col. Eric and Mary Wilbur engage in the Mexican tradition of breaking cascarones, or confetti-filled eggs, over one another's heads during the opening ceremony of Fiesta April 20 at the Alamo Plaza. Although there are several accepted meanings behind the breaking of a cascarone, the most common ones are to bring that person good luck, to bestow blessings upon a person or to indicate you have an admirer. Fiesta is a 10-day event with more than 100 scheduled events designed to honor the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. Colonel Wilbur is the vice commander of the 37th Training Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. (USAF photo by Robbin Cresswell)
