Commander of Naval Medical Forces Support Command visits NAMRU San Antonio

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (July 25, 2023) – Cmdr. Drew Havard, deputy director, Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine (CHRM), Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, joined by Chief Science Director Dr. Sylvain Cardin, speaks with Capt. William Brafford, commander, Naval Medical Forces Support Command (NMFSC) and Command Master Chief Veronica Brittenum regarding research on the Application of Phage Display for the Development of a Novel Antivenom against Western Cottonmouth Snakes during a tour of NAMRU San Antonio facilities at the Battlefield Health and Trauma Research Institute. Scientists assigned to CHRM integrate research in the areas of biomaterials, biostatistical analysis, environmental surveillance, epidemiology, infection control, and maxillofacial injury. NAMRU San Antonio’s mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. NAMRU San Antonio hosts fifth 'Mission Possible'

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (May 3, 2023) – Commanding Officer Capt. Gerald DeLong of Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio speaks to personnel during the fifth edition of “Mission Possible,” an information-sharing event held at the Battlefield Health and Trauma (BHT) Research Institute. The purpose of “Mission Possible” is to better inform members of the command on the tactics, techniques, and procedures of the three science directorates to include the resource acquisitions and administrative directorates. NAMRU San Antonio’s mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. NAMRU San Antonio attends 4th Military Medical Industry Day

SAN ANTONIO - (May 2, 2023) – Scientists and researchers assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio attended the 4th Military Medical Industry Day (MMID) hosted by VelocityTX, a subsidiary of Texas Research & Technology Foundation, the City of San Antonio, and Bexar County at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The following tri-service sessions were conducted: Blood and Shock Resuscitation/Hemorrhage and Edema Control + Organ Function Support; Combat Wound Care I (infection/sepsis: diagnosis, treatment, prevention); Combat Wound Care II (burns: assessment and treatment); Battlefield Pain Management + Traumatic Brain Injury/Polytrauma Related; Engineering, Automation, and Technology (includes Bioengineering, 3D printing); Dental/Maxillofacial Injury/Surgery Research and Development; and Military Medical Simulation/Education/Training. The MMID provides a platform for innovators and entrepreneurs to learn about military medical requirements, available funding sources to support research and development, and ways to work with the military. Retired Coast Guardsman earns civilian honors at NAMRU San Antonio

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (Dec. 8, 2022) – Alfredo Gonzalez, of El Paso, Texas, a financial management analyst, assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, was recognized by Commanding Officer Capt. Gerald DeLong as the Fiscal Year 2022 “Support Staff” Civilian of the Half Year (Second Half) during an All Hands meeting held at the Military and Family Readiness Center.  Gonzalez, a retired U.S. Coast Guardsman and graduate of Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J., has served as a Navy civilian for five years. NAMRU San Antonio is one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy under the Department of Defense and is one of eight subordinate research commands in the global network of laboratories operating under the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring, Md.
