Carlana Stone (center), seen here in attendance at the Pentagon Memorial Dedication Ceremony on Sept. 11, 2008, is scheduled to speak Army Soldiers and units on Dec. 8 as part of the U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) and the Army’s Ready and Resilient program. Stone lost the use of her legs in an accident when she was 16 years old and shares her story of recuperation and triumph to motivate and empower others with their own struggles.

Take command: Improvements in preventive care coverage with TRICARE Select
November 29, 2017 — On Jan. 1, 2018, TRICARE Select will replace TRICARE Standard and TRICARE Extra. As a result, beneficiaries will notice improved coverage for preventive services with TRICARE Select. Preventive care helps you take command of your health and manage potential issues before you experience symptoms. This type of health care allows you to address health problems before they become life threatening. Examples of TRICARE-covered preventive services include cancer screenings and vaccines, in addition to well-woman and well-child exams... MORE

Application window open for 2018 nurse, direct enlisted commissioning programs
November 27, 2017 — The Air Force’s Personnel Center will accept applications from active-duty enlisted Airmen for the Nurse Enlisted and Direct Enlisted Commissioning Programs through March 16, 2018, for the April selection boards... MORE

The Air Force has two commissioning programs for enlisted Airmen who have, or are close to having their nursing degree. The Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program helps Airmen finish their degree while the Direct Enlisted Commissioning Program is open to enlisted Airmen with a nursing degree and license. Initial applications are due to the Air Force Personnel Center by March 16, 2018.

The 323rd Army Band “Fort Sam's Own” spent Thanksgiving Day morning Nov. 23 marching in the 68th Annual Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade. Thousands of people braved chilly temperatures to line the city streets for the parade. The 323rd Army Band played the National Anthem during the opening ceremonies, then marched off after playing the Army Song.
