Controlled burn rids JBSA-Camp Bullis of wildfire-causing vegetation

A firefighter sets fire to vegetation at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis during a controlled burn Feb. 23. Firefighters burned more than 600 acres of vegetation at the installation during a three-day period, from Feb. 22-24, in an effort to prevent wildfires from occurring. The controlled burn was a joint effort between the 502nd Civil Engineering Squadron at JBSA, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, JBSA Fire Emergency Services and area firefighters.

Boys Scouts learn law, earn merit badge in mock trial

Boy Scouts from Troop 23 present their case to Judge Jefferson Moore, 186th Judicial District Judge, and Col. Roger Shuck, Troop 23 Scout Master and U.S. Army South Inspector General, during a mock trial at the Main Post Chapel Feb. 26. This was the culminating event for the scouts to earn their law merit badge. This merit badge gives Scouts the opportunity to learn about the history of the law and the functions it serves, the responsibilities and duties and the role of law enforcement officers in our society, consumer protection laws and agencies, new areas of the law and careers in the legal profession. The mock trial gave them firsthand experience on the intricacies of being an attorney.

An estimated 2.2 million calls were made to poison centers across the nation in 2015, according to the National Poison Center, proof that exposure to dangerous or potentially dangerous substances is a common occurrence in the United States. During National Poison Prevention Awareness Month in March, health and safety officials across the country – including those at Joint Base San Antonio – are emphasizing the need for people to handle toxic substances with caution and to ensure young children do not have access to these substances, especially everyday items.
