May 15, 2018 — The U.S. Army Medical Command's Army Public Health Center announced May 14 the launch of a survey for military caregivers, those family members and friends who provide assistance to a wounded, ill or injured Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine. The survey will be open to ANY Family member or friend over the age of 18, regardless of their beneficiary status... MORE

May 14, 2018 — The family of Army Maj. Donald G. Carr got some long-awaited closure as the remains of the Green Beret were laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery May 11... MORE

Members of the Fort Sam Houston Honor Guard carry the casket of Army Maj. Donald G. Carr into the Gift Chapel at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston May 11. The Special Forces officer was lost while on a forward air controller mission July 6, 1971. Carr's remains were found in 2014 and verified in 2016. He was buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full honors.

Retiree News: Older adults should get new shingles vaccine
May 14, 2018 — A new shingles vaccine is rolling out across the Military Health System, and health care experts say it’s a game changer. The vaccine, Shingrix, is recommended for healthy adults 50 and older to prevent shingles, a painful skin rash that can have debilitating long-term effects for older people... MORE

An earlier shingles vaccine was introduced in 2006, but that vaccine was for people 60 and older when it first came out, and only about 70 percent effective in offering full protection against the virus.
