JBSA leaders recognize contributions of military children at proclamation signing
March 29, 2019
Joint Base San Antonio leaders recognized the contributions of military children and families during a proclamation ceremony designating April as Month of the Military Child at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston March 29. The ceremony was held in the Texas Room at the U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) Headquarters. Signing the proclamation were (from left)  Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, ARNORTH commanding general; Capt. William Leonard, Navy Medicine Education and Training Command deputy commander; and Brig. Gen. Laura L. Lenderman, JBSA and 502nd Air Base Wing commander. Also attending the proclamation signing were five students from the Fort Sam Houston Independent School District and their parents.

Beginning Monday, April 1 and ending Thursday, July 25, the Beach gate to the San Antonio Military Medical Center on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston will undergo construction as a part of safety and security upgrades across JBSA.

JBSA-Fort Sam Houston holds Teen and Young Adult Job Fair
March 29, 2019
The Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Military & Family Readiness Center, located at 3060 Stanley Road, building 2797, will host the Teen and Young Adult Job Fair from 3-7 p.m. April 25. The free fair is open to teenagers and young adults, ages 15-22, who are dependents of active-duty members, Reservists, National Guard and Coast Guard members, retirees and Department of Defense civilians.

Military takes part in Fiesta Media Day

The U.S. Army in San Antonio serves as the military coordinator for Fiesta this year. Brig. Gen. Bill Boruff took part in this morning's media event on behalf of Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, the Army North  commanding general. Boruff is the commanding general for the Mission and Installation Contracting Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. The 128th Fiesta San Antonio takes place April 18-28 and includes more than 100 events that showcase San Antonio's rich multicultural heritage. Fiesta began in 1891 to honor the heroes of the Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. Two service members representing each military service serve as military ambassadors and take part in more than 50 Fiesta events.

United States Space Command commander nominated

The president has nominated to the Senate Gen John W. "Jay" Raymond as the commander of United States Space Command. If confirmed, Raymond will lead the soon-to-be established USSPACECOM, which will focus on conducting all joint space warfighting operations and ensuring the combat readiness of global forces.

Army FY2020 budget will fund childcare, family initiatives
