Dr. (Lt. Col.) Antonio Eppolito demonstrates the heel strike style running gait during an Efficient Running Course in the Hercules Gym at Pope Field, N.C., on Sept. 8, 2013. “Research shows that every year approximately 30% of runners [in the U.S.] suffer an injury,” said Eppolito, a practicing family physician. “That number goes up to 80% in competitive athletes.” Eppolito also said he believes that transitioning to a barefoot style of running, where the mid-foot or ball strikes the ground first, reduces injuries in runners. The McConnell 2012 Income Tax Center is in need of volunteers. Volunteering requires no prior experience and will include Internal Revenue Service tax training Dec. 12 to 16, 2011.
