Warrior & Family Support Center beats summer swelter with new canopy

David Coker (third from left), Fisher House Foundation president, and Rachel O’Hern (second from right), Returning Heroes Home executive director, symbolically cut the ribbon re-opening the Freedom Park Amphitheater at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston May 17. The amphitheater, part of the Warrior & Family Support Center, received a 12,000-square-foot canopy addition to shield visitors from the Texas sun. Also pictured (from left) are retired Marine Maj. Changes to UCMJ: Military Justice Act of 2016 brings about training

Lt. Col. Sara Root, chief of the Army’s Military Justice Legislation Training Team, assigned to office of The Judge Advocate Genera -criminal law division, briefs commanders and first sergeants May 5-6 on the changes to the Uniformed Code of Military Justice inside the Roc Drill Facility at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. During the two-day course, attendees learned about the Military Justice Act of 2016, which will take effect Jan. 1, 2019.

Michael Henderson and his wife, Connie, receive a guided tour of the historic 129-year old Stilwell House at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston May 5 as part of Military Appreciation Weekend. Located at 626 Infantry Post Road, the house is named after Brig. Gen. Joseph W. Stilwell, also known as “Vinegar Joe.” This historic house was one of the many stops during the hourly historic tour of the installation.

David Rough, 502nd Force Support Group commander, are joined by security forces, civil engineers and others to officially open the Fort Sam Houston ShareRide location April 13. The new pickup and drop-off point is located just outside the Binz-Engleman Entry Control Point.

Fiesta royalty join Soldiers at 32nd Medical Brigade Enlisted Run

Rey Feo LXX Ken Flores, along with other members of Fiesta San Antonio, joined Soldiers for the 32nd Medical Brigade Enlisted Run at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston in the early morning hours April 13. Covering three miles, the dignitaries had the opportunity to run with Soldiers from the 232nd Medical Battalion and 264th Medical Battalion during their morning physical training session.

Course teaches medical officers about Army tasks and leadership

Students in the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School Basic Officer Leader Course, or BOLC, carry a “wounded” Soldier on a stretcher during a simulated enemy attack as part of their field training Feb. 26 at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis. BOLC is the entry-level course for students who are becoming commissioned officers in the Army and is conducted in two phases over seven weeks, including classroom training and field training. The objective of the course is to train new officers in Army tasks and familiarize them with the AMEDD culture.

Army South, Central American militaries work to improve regional security

U.S. Army South hosted the Central America (CENTAM) Regional Working Group, at U.S. Army South headquarters at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 20-22. Senior leaders from partner nations in Central America, participated in the premier engagement between Army South staff and CENTAM senior intelligence and operations officers. Held annually, the meeting promotes mutual security interests and interoperability.
