Military to bring eye care to front lines with 59th MDW-funded mobile app

Air Force Lt. Col. Peter Carra (left), 379th Expeditionary Medical Group optometry officer in charge, performs an eye exam for a U.S. Soldier March 9 at Camp As Sayliyah (CAS), Qatar. Carra and Tech. Sgt. Marquita Moore, 379th EMDG optometry NCO in charge, travel to CAS once a week to provide eye care for Soldiers who, in turn, fabricate glasses prescribed for Airmen at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, and servicemembers at other deployed locations throughout U.S. Central Command.

Gateway Innovation Center kicks off 59th MDW Spark Cell

Gateway Bulverde Clinic pharmacy: Medicine for North Central San Antonio patients

Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center Urgent Care levels up; ER re-opens

59th Medical Wing personnel cut the ribbon to officially transition the Urgent Care Clinic to a Family Emergency Center at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center on Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Oct. 1. The FEC will provide 24-hour emergency care to all Tricare beneficiaries in the San Antonio area who would have been previously transferred to local facilities.

New Reid Health Services Center provides one-stop service

Carter oversees IT Asset Management, with approximately 20,000 assets that have a combined valued greater than $13 million, the central point for information technology equipment tracking and distribution.

Air Force tests en route wound care device at 59th Medical Wing

The multi-channel wound vacuum system is tested on a simulated patient in a C-130 static aircraft display at the 59th Medical Wing, San Antonio, Texas, Dec. 1, 2016. The multi-channel wound vacuum system, which is used to promote wound healing on critical patients, is able to replace the capabilities of four single-channel systems. This smaller, more transportable device makes it easier for aeromedical evacuation crews to deliver en route wound care to patients with multiple wounds. The Air Force Medical Evaluation Support Activity (AFMESA) team was involved in the testing of the multi-channel wound vacuum system, ensuring the device could perform in the operational environment.
