Heartwarming Homecoming

Master Sergeant Brian Thornton is introduced to his four-month-old daughter Kylie as he holds wife Victoria upon returning home from Afghanistan. The baby girl was born while MSgt. Thornton was on a six-month deployment to Kandahar. The homecoming took place at San Antonio International Airport. MSgt. Col Richard L. Lowe, assigned to the 39th Flying Training Squadron at a ceremony  held at Randolph AFB theater on December 10, 2010.  Lt. Col Lowe distinguished himself by heroism involving voluntary risk of life following the crash of Flight 1404 at Denver International Airport on 20 December 2008.

Vehicle dispatch keeps Randolph rolling

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Kirk Mason, 902nd Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle control operations, removes adhesive graphics from a school bus.  902nd LRS vehicle control operations manages and serves just about every kind of vehicle one can think of on base, except boats or aircraft. They handle base bussed, taxis, government sedans, construction equipment and more. 

“Most people think of the base taxi and supporting [distinguished visitors], but that’s just a small part of it,” said Michael Cox, 902nd Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle control operations supervisor while walking through a yard with school busses, sedans, forklifts, box trucks, multi-passenger vans – all spotless and parked neatly.”We do more than taxis, it’s quite diverse.” (U.S. Air Force photo/Brian McGloin)

Randolph AFB, TX, 03 November 2010:  Tech. Sgt. Arturo Delgado, combat arms instructor with the 902nd Security Forces Squadron, assists a trainee with clearing a weapon jam during the first Air Force Qualification Course live fire training conducted at Randolph in two years. The reopening saves approximately 2.5 hours of traveling per firing class and alleviates scheduling conflicts and range closures at other facilities allowing the 902nd SFS the ability to conduct more effective training.

Retired T-43 put on display

Members of the 12th Flying Training Wing Maintenance Directorate move Randolph’s last remaining T-43A across the street from base operations in preparation for putting the aircraft on static display. The T-43A was used by the 562nd and 563rd Flying Training Squadrons training combat systems officers at Randolph for 17 years.
