JBSA-Fort Sam Houston hosts Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Summit
April 22, 2019
Senior service commanders from throughout Joint Base San Antonio signed the Commanders' Proclamation during the Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Summit at the Fort Sam Houston Community Center April 3. The event helped command teams across JBSA and the Sexual Assault first responders to gain a better understanding of sexual assault trends and gain knowledge from subject matter experts. By signing the proclamation, the leaders across JBSA commit to work together to educate our community about supporting survivors and standing against harmful attitudes and actions, and not be bystanders.

‘Take Back Our City’ event targets sexual violence

Army to conduct survey gauging resident satisfaction with privatized housing

Residents of privatized Army family and unaccompanied housing will receive information about how to complete the 2019 Residential Communities Initiative resident satisfaction survey.  The survey runs April 23 through May 24 to gather feedback about life in privatized housing.

Army makes big changes to centralized promotion board system

The Army will spend the next three to four years implementing an improved merit-based promotion system. The effort centers on a transition from time-based to merit-based policies and practices. Further, the change ensures that the best-qualified Soldier will be the first one eligible for promotion.

The Air Force Civilian Service’s Talent Acquisition Division at the Air Force’s Personnel Center, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, hosted an online virtual hiring event April 10, supporting Air Force Materiel Command’s recruiting efforts. With nearly 400 vacancies, talent acquisition consultants partnered with AFMC hiring officials to fill positions with well-qualified individuals.

Lt. Col. Dick Cole, the Doolittle Raiders made history, planted the seeds for today’s Air Force

On April 18, 1942, airmen of the US Army Air Forces, led by Lt. Col. James H. (Jimmy) Doolittle, carried the Battle of the Pacific to the heart of the Japanese empire with a surprising and daring raid on military targets at Tokyo, Yokohama, Yokosuka, Nagoya and Kobe. This heroic attack against these major cities was the result of coordination between the Army Air Forces and the US Navy, which carried the sixteen North American B-25 medium bombers aboard the carrier USS Hornet to within take-off distance of the Japanese Islands. A pair of alert escorts follow the USS Hornet to protect her lethal cargo of B-25 bombers. The aircraft carrier Hornet had 16 AAF B-25s on deck, ready for the Tokyo Raid.

Career Skills Program prepares Airmen for employment after service

Master Sgt. Angela Santos, Air Force Cryptologic Office,Education and Technology Branch, superintendent, 25th Air Force, began an internship in April through the Air Force Career Skills Program. The program prepares Airmen through vocational and technical training for a specific career or trade when transitioning from military to civilian employment.

JBSA recognizes volunteers who go beyond the call of service for military community

An oversized check, representing the monetary value in hours given by volunteers to JBSA calculated by last year, was presented to JBSA leaders. JBSA members had volunteered a total of 342,396 hours in 2018, which came out to a monetary value of $8.4 million.

59th Medical Wing to unite JBSA community with annual health rally

The 59th Medical Wing is again bringing the Joint Base San Antonio community together for a morning of fun and fitness.
The annual 59th MDW Health Rally – which features a 5K run/walk for children and adults, a competitive 9K event and a health fair – is set for 9 a.m. May 4 at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph’s Airmen’s Heritage Park.

Final Doolittle Raider’s tradition of honor and legacy of valor celebrated at memorial

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein addresses the family of retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Richard “Dick” E. Cole during a memorial service at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph April 18. Cole was the last surviving Doolittle Raider who took part in the storied World War II raid on Tokyo and was a founding Airman of the USAF Special Operations community.
