Local government support agreements facilitate savings for JBSA
January 31, 2020 — Joint Base San Antonio is currently utilizing three IGSA’s to purchase goods and services through the City of San Antonio and the Alamo Area Council of Governments, or AACOG, to include agreements for paving, blanket commodity and services purchasing, and the purchase of bulk materials, like the rock, sand, topsoil, and concrete used in JBSA construction and landscaping projects... The Department of Defense budgets about $25 billion annually to operate and support its installations, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Years ago, the GAO determined the DOD needed to reduce its installation support costs, and the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 helped bring their efforts to fruition by authorizing military services to enter into Intergovernmental Support Agreements, or IGSAs, with local and state governments, leveraging financial benefits and enhancing mission effectiveness.

Derius Jackson, 12th Training Squadron flight chief, was recognized as the "Hidden Hero" for January by the Schertz, Cibolo, Selma, Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee Jan. 21 at the Schertz monthly Chamber luncheon. Jackson has volunteered his time with the Habitat for Humanity and the San Antonio Food Bank helping provide more than 2,000 meals for children in the community. In addition to his volunteering Jackson also served as the president of the Randolph 5/6 organization.
