UPDATE 1: CDC Novel Coronavirus Response Support

By 502d Air Base Wing Public Affairs 502d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The following is from a social media post on the Joint Base San Antonio Facebook page Feb. 2, 2020.

Update: We hear and understand the concerns of our community and family members regarding JBSA’s support for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the potential repatriation of American citizens who are subject to a federal quarantine. We plan to hold town halls this week to hear from residents and allow HHS and the CDC to answer your questions. More information on when and where the town hall will take place will be coming in the next few days.

To clarify, JBSA-Lackland is only providing temporary housing support to HHS for the passengers during their quarantine period. HHS will be responsible for all care, transportation and security of the passengers. The incoming passengers will be housed at both the Gateway Inn and the Gateway Villa and will not have access to any other installation locations. HHS and CDC representatives will continually monitor the passengers, and they will not have any contact with the JBSA population.

We’ve contacted guests currently in lodging at Gateway Inn and Gateway Villa and are assisting them with getting alternate accommodations.

In addition, the 37th Training Wing will continue to receive the arrival of new trainees and BMT graduation events will continue as usual. JBSA Leadership assures unit members, families, trainees and visitors to JBSA facilities that they are safe and everyone’s well-being is our first priority.

While the coronavirus is a very serious public health threat, CDC assess the immediate health risk to the general public as low.
