AFIMSC fiscal closeout promotes readiness, supports Airmen and families

As 30 budget analysts and financial experts gathered at Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center headquarters at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland to close out the fiscal year, 2nd Lt. Paul Griffin and Emerald Lundy, budget officers from Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, received a behind the scenes look at AFIMSC and end of year operations from Felix Saenz, AFIMSC budget analyst.

Army North heads underground to train in NYC

Members of U.S. Army Reserve chemical and medical companies provide immediate assistance to a simulated casualty during a mock subway joint exercise at the FDNY’s Training Academy, Randalls Island in New York, Sept. 26. The training, planned by the U.S. Army North Civil Support Training Activity, incorporated elements from the U.S. Army Reserve, New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority, and New York City Emergency Management, and was geared toward creating a holistic response effort that helped test the core competencies of Defense Support of Civil Authorities mission in a Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear response.

Air Force graduates first fully religiously accommodated Sikh Airman from Security Forces Apprentice Course

Airman Sunjit Rathour graduated from BMT June 13, 2019, as the first trainee to complete the 8-and-half week training with permission to wear a turban with uncut beard, uncut hair, necklace and bracelet in observation of his Sikh faith. This accommodation remained through his participation in the Security Forces apprentice course and will continue during his time as an active duty Airman.

Stop the Bleed program provides training to area schools

Dr. John Kragh, U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research Department of Damage Control Resuscitation orthopedic surgeon and researcher, demonstrates the proper technique for packing a bleeding wound. Kragh is one of several Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston trauma physicians, nurses and medics who are going to area schools to provide training to school personnel, including teachers and nurses, on the basics of treating a bleeding injury. A new state law that went into effect this year requires that school personnel and students be trained and prepared in the basics of treating an injury in the event of an emergency.

A critical care air transport team tends to a patient during a nearly 20-hour direct flight from Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, to San Antonio on Aug. 18, 2019. The service member was cared for by a joint service team of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation specialists, an aeromedical evacuation team and a CCATT in order to maintain the highest level of care possible during transport.

149th FW Air Guardsman, single mother talks resilience

MICC contracts underpin Army readiness efforts

AACOG, JBSA sign blanket intergovernmental support agreement

Brig. Gen. Laura Lenderman, commander, 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio, and Diane Rath, Alamo Area Council of Governments executive director, signed a historical agreement at the AACOG Board of Directors meeting Sept. 25. This new blanket Intergovernmental Support Agreement, or IGSA, will afford JBSA the opportunity to bring requirements they would normally fill through traditional federal contracting actions to AACOG.
