UV Safety Month - Are you being "Sun Smart"?
July 23, 2013
Sunburns can significantly increase the chance of developing skin cancer due to damage to the skin’s DNA. It is recommended to apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 15 or higher, 30 minutes prior to going outside. If you are out in the sun for an extended period of time, reapply the sunscreen every two hours and after swimming or sweating. The best way to avoid the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays is to limit your exposure to the sun. So, as much as possible seek shade and remember the sun’s rays are strongest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (U.S. Air Force photo illustration by Airman 1st Class Zachary Kee)
