Maj. Gen. Irving Halter, outgoing 19th Air Force commander, was honored by fellow Airmen, friends and family during his final, or "fini," flight July 28. General Halter flew a T-38 Talon for his flight and upon his return was welcomed by firefighters dousing him with hundreds of gallons of water and friends and family showering him with warm wishes. The general will turn over command of the 19th AF in a ceremony here July 30 and head to his new assignment as Joint Staff vice director of operations at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Changes were made to the basic military training curriculum in November 2005 that focuses more on instilling war skills and strengthening the warrior ethos in Airmen graduating from training.
