AMEDD Center & School getting a new name
August 29, 2019
The graphic for the redesignation ceremony planned for Sept. 16, at which the AMEDDC&S HRCoE will change its name to the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, or MEDCoE, depicts the current logo being peeled away, revealing a very small portion of the new MEDCoE logo bearing the new name. The new logo, just like the current logo bears the distinctive unit insignia, or crest, that was originally approved for the U.S. Army Medical Field Service School June 17, 1965. It was redesignated for the Academy of Health Sciences and amended to revise the symbolism Feb. 20, 1973, extending authorization of wear to personnel of the AMEDDC&S Jan. 5, 1993. The crest is adorned with a motto that reads “To Conserve the Fighting.” The new MEDCoE logo also bears U.S. Army and U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command insignias.

AMEDD Captains Career Course changes helping students become better leaders

Army Medical Department Center & School, Health Readiness Center of Excellence students participate in a field training exercise for the Captains Career Course at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis May 7. During the exercise, the students put together a support operations plan for a medical battalion that is supporting civil authorities responding to the hurricane. Students in the Captains Career Course undergo nine weeks of training that includes classroom and hands-on training about the Military Decision Making Process, Army Health Systems Support and Force Health Protection doctrine, unit training management, leadership skills and staff officer functions.

Course teaches medical officers about Army tasks and leadership

Students in the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School Basic Officer Leader Course, or BOLC, carry a “wounded” Soldier on a stretcher during a simulated enemy attack as part of their field training Feb. 26 at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis. BOLC is the entry-level course for students who are becoming commissioned officers in the Army and is conducted in two phases over seven weeks, including classroom training and field training. The objective of the course is to train new officers in Army tasks and familiarize them with the AMEDD culture.

188th Medical Battalion changes leadership

Lt. Col. James L. Pulliam assumed command of the 188th Medical Battalion at a ceremony held at the AMEDD Museum. LTC Pulliam is only the second commander of the 188th MED BN, formally the Academy Battalion Provisional, which was renamed on June 1, 2017. Former commander LTC Amy L. Jackson took command two years ago when the battalion first was stood up as part of an AMEDDC&S reorganization.

West opened the session by taking questions and engaging in a discussion. Soldiers asked a broad range of questions about training, readiness and leadership. The surgeon general emphasized the importance of Army Medicine in operational planning and exercises and the critical role of maintaining readiness.
