Lenderman, commander of the 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio hosted 16 members of local Chambers of Commerce from cities located near JBSA installations during its first chamber summit at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston on June 4. Chamber members were told about of the future growth of JBSA, to include more than 800 new people this year and how this will affect JBSA and the surrounding communities. This growth will mean new challenges, but also new opportunities, ranging from infrastructure to community initiatives.

Joint Base San Antonio leaders recognized the contributions of military children and families during a proclamation ceremony designating April as Month of the Military Child at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston March 29. The ceremony was held in the Texas Room at the U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) Headquarters. Signing the proclamation were (from left) Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, ARNORTH commanding general; Capt. William Leonard, Navy Medicine Education and Training Command deputy commander; and Brig. Gen. Laura L. Lenderman, JBSA and 502nd Air Base Wing commander. Also attending the proclamation signing were five students from the Fort Sam Houston Independent School District and their parents.

Bexar County Military and Veterans Services Center offers career, educational opportunities

Laura Lenderman, 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio commander, joined local officials to mark the opening of the new Bexar County Military and Veterans Services Center during a Nov. 12 ceremony. The center, located at 1422 E. Soaring Valor flight brings World War II veterans, high school students together for New Orleans trip

A World War II veteran holds his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance at the conclusion of a sendoff ceremony at the San Antonio International Airport Oct. 17 which saw 40 WWII veterans take off for a trip to New Orleans to visit the National World War II Museum. The Soaring Valor program, sponsored by the Gary Sinise Foundation, helped send the veterans and 40 high school Student companions from Dallas, to the museum.

JBSA commander honors President Johnson’s legacy
August 29, 2018 — “If there was ever a doubt in my mind what a true Texan looks like, we don’t have to look any further than President Johnson,” said Brig. Gen. Laura L. Lenderman, 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio commander, during a public wreath-laying ceremony Aug. 27 at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. The park is located in Johnson City, Texas. The gravesite ceremony for the former president observes his birthday and the contributions he made to the nation... MORE

Upgrades enhance visitor experience at AMEDD Museum
November 9, 2017 — The U.S. Army Medical Department, or AMEDD, Museum at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston is upgrading its exhibit area and some of its facilities to enhance the museum experience for its visitors... MORE

George Wunderlich, U.S. Army Medical Department Museum director, points to a section of historical photos and prints in the museum’s revamped AMEDD Regimental Room, which is used for various activities from change of command and retirement ceremonies to receptions to training demonstrations. The renovations to the room are part of several improvements being made at the museum to enhance the visitor experience.
