Randolph Field ISD bus driver honored as best in state

When Randolph Field Independent School District bus driver Eddie Luna was asked to attend the school board’s March 30 session, he believed he was going to be honored as the district’s nominee for a bus driver of the year award. The honor was much more than that. Luna, a retired Air Force technical sergeant now in his second year as a RFISD bus driver, learned he had been named the 2016-17 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year by the Property Casualty Alliance of Texas.

Air Force safety initiative targets falls on the job

Nearly 3,500 falls on the job cost the Air Force 42,000 work days – and the lives of 13 people – during the five-year period that ended with fiscal year 2016, according to the Air Force Safety Center. In an effort to confront this safety issue, the Air Force is sponsoring its Fall Prevention Focus May 8-19, a partnership with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and National Institute for Occupational Safety’s National Safety Stand Down.

JBSA comes together for second annual Aerobathon

Joint Base San Antonio will have a chance to enjoy free workout sessions, learn tips on how to stay healthy and have a chance to win prizes on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at JBSA-Randolph’s Rambler Fitness Center. This year’s Aerobathon, which is open to all active duty service members, dependents, retirees and Department of Defense cardholders age 16 and older, will feature special guest Ally Davidson, co-founder and co-CEO of Camp Gladiator.

Air Force testing program to expedite civilians’ EEO complaints

An Air Force test program is allowing civilians who file equal employment opportunity complaints to pursue an option that can expedite their cases. The pilot program for the Compressed, Orderly, Rapid and Equitable process, also known as CORE, began Oct. 1 and will continue through fiscal year 2018.

JBSA-Randolph mentors lend guiding hand to at-risk students

A mentoring program at four school districts across two San Antonio area counties is giving members of the Joint Base San Antonio community an opportunity to serve as wingmen to at-risk students. The program is offered through Communities in Schools of South Central Texas, which is part of a national network established in New York City more than 40 years ago to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and succeed in life.
