JBSA leaders recognize contributions of military children at proclamation signing
March 29, 2019
Joint Base San Antonio leaders recognized the contributions of military children and families during a proclamation ceremony designating April as Month of the Military Child at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston March 29. The ceremony was held in the Texas Room at the U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) Headquarters. Signing the proclamation were (from left)  Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, ARNORTH commanding general; Capt. William Leonard, Navy Medicine Education and Training Command deputy commander; and Brig. Gen. Laura L. Lenderman, JBSA and 502nd Air Base Wing commander. Also attending the proclamation signing were five students from the Fort Sam Houston Independent School District and their parents.

JBSA tax centers open for business

Volunteers at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, JBSA-Lackland, and JBSA-Randolph will operate tax centers for eligible active duty members and military retirees. The tax centers provide free tax preparation and electronic filing for federal and state tax returns.

Safety specialists prescribe patience during JBSA gate closures

Valley-Hi gate construction scheduled; In-bound traffic closed

Inbound lanes for the Valley-Hi (Airmen’s Gate) will be completely closed beginning Jan. 21 while normal outbound lanes will be transitioned to accommodate two-way traffic.

JBSA conducts severe weather, natural disaster response exercise
January 8, 2019
The 502nd Air Base Wing will conduct a severe weather exercise from Feb. 20-26, consisting of exercise weather messages and a full-scale natural disaster response exercise, or NDRE, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 27 throughout Joint Base San Antonio.

Joint Base San Antonio, City of San Antonio enter into mutual aid agreement for emergency response

Joint Base San Antonio and the City of San Antonio have entered into a nine-year mutual aid and support agreement that will allow for more efficient response and recovery actions during emergencies. Brig. Gen. Laura L. Lenderman, 502d Air Base Wing and JBSA commander, along with San Antonio Fire Department Chief Charles Hood, San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus, Deputy City Manager Erik Walsh and other city officials, were on hand for the signing of the agreement at San Antonio City Hall Nov. 29. Gen. Lenderman and Chief Hood were the signatories for the document.

JBSA programs provide resources for prevention of suicide, substance abuse

Active-duty members who are experiencing feelings of depression, isolation and thoughts of suicide during the holiday season can get help from two Joint Base San Antonio programs focused on suicide and substance abuse prevention.

Program creates pathway to success for departing military members

The Transition Assistance Program is available to service members at military and family readiness centers throughout the Department of Defense, which offer classes and one-on-one counseling in conjunction with the program. For Army members, the program is called Soldier for Life – TAP.

JBSA gates scheduled for construction

Throughout Joint Base San Antonio, installation entry control points, otherwise known as the base gates, will undergo multiple construction projects starting November 2018. These necessary construction projects will enhance force protection capability across JBSA, and when complete, will enhance the safety and security of our workforce, family and visitors.

The Armed Forces Action Plan forum will be Oct. 29-Nov. 1 at the JBSA-Fort Sam Houston Military & Family Readiness Center, 3060 Stanley Road, building 2797.
