Local government support agreements facilitate savings for JBSA

The Department of Defense budgets about $25 billion annually to operate and support its installations, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Years ago, the GAO determined the DOD needed to reduce its installation support costs, and the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 helped bring their efforts to fruition by authorizing military services to enter into Intergovernmental Support Agreements, or IGSAs, with local and state governments, leveraging financial benefits and enhancing mission effectiveness.

AACOG, JBSA sign blanket intergovernmental support agreement

Brig. Gen. Laura Lenderman, commander, 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio, and Diane Rath, Alamo Area Council of Governments executive director, signed a historical agreement at the AACOG Board of Directors meeting Sept. 25. This new blanket Intergovernmental Support Agreement, or IGSA, will afford JBSA the opportunity to bring requirements they would normally fill through traditional federal contracting actions to AACOG.
