Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear training -- as real as it gets

An observer/trainer from U.S. Army North Civil Support Training Activity evaluates decontamination procedures performed by 3rd Platoon, 68th Engineer Company during a two-day Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear training and certification exercise. The training was held at the San Antonio Firefighter Training Facility Oct. 22-23.

The training, planned by the U.S. Army North Civil Support Training Activity, incorporated elements from the U.S. Army Reserve, New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority, and New York City Emergency Management, and was geared toward creating a holistic response effort that helped test the core competencies of Defense Support of Civil Authorities mission in a Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear response.

ARNORTH NCO earns Soldier's Medal for heroism
September 25, 2019
Maj. Gen. David P. Glaser, U.S. Army North Deputy Commanding General-Operations, presented the Soldier’s Medal to Sgt. James Miller, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, at Fort Sam Houston Sept. 24. Miller was recognized with the Soldier’s Medal for selflessly pulling a woman from a burning vehicle in May 2017. Maj. Gen. Glaser was the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command Commander when the award started processing and was honored to present the medal.

The ROC Drill helped synchronize active duty military support efforts with federal, state, territorial and local partners to ensure seamless support in a hurricane response event.

Army celebrates 244th birthday at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston

Cadences echoed across Fort Sam Houston as 2,000 Soldiers celebrated the 244th Army Birthday with an Army run, early June 13. Joining the Soldiers in a 3 1/2-mile run were Airmen from throughout JBSA, as well as civilians, friends and family members. The run is one of several events the Army units participated in to celebrate the Army's birthday on June 14.

Newest member of the Fort Sam Houston Caisson makes his debut

Chandler, the Fort Sam Caisson Platoon’s newest “Cap” horse, stands during the Feb. 5, 2019 funeral for retired Brig. Gen. Joseph D. Schott . Staff Sgt. Joshua Rightenour, a member of the Caisson platoon, holds his reins. Rightenour said participating in military funerals is a “very humbling experience.” He added “everyone we do these services for served honorably. It’s just one little thing we can give back to them.”

ARNORTH communications building dedicated to local World War II hero

Staff Sgt. Fred Garcia, a U.S. Army telephone and telegraph line chief who fought in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions during the Battle of Rapido River in Italy, was honored during a building memorialization ceremony at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Sept. 7. Garcia was a San Antonio native and a direct descendent of the Padron family, one of the original 16 families who founded the city. Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan (center, left), commanding general, U.S. Army North, joins (from right) Kenneth Garcia, Wayne Garcia and Diana Garcia-Schulze, all children of the late Staff Sgt. U.S. Northern Command and the City of New York evaluated members of New York’s Emergency Services and the New York Army National Guard’s response to a simulated chemical event.
