The Army Medical Department Center & School’s incoming Command Sgt. Maj. William “Buck” O’Neal accepted the colors from Maj. Gen. Brian C. Lein, AMEDDC&S commanding general, at a change of responsibility ceremony held at the AMEDD Museum amphitheater Aug. 10.

O’Neal takes responsibility from Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew J. Rhoades, who retired after serving 31 years.

O’Neal comes to AMEDDC&S from Regional Health Command Europe, where he served as the command sergeant major. O’Neal entered the Army in October 1991 and has served in numerous leadership and operational positions and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II and Operation Enduring Freedom II and VI. He is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club as well as a recipient of the Order of Military Medical Merit.

Rhoades enlisted in the Army in 1986 as a combat medic holding a multitude of leadership and operational positions. He served as the AMEDDC&S command sergeant major for 2 ½ years. During his remarks at the ceremony, Rhoades reflected on his years of service and told the audience, “I’ll close by saying ‘Stay Frosty’ for the final time.”
