BAMC NCO earns medal at air rifle competition

The DoD Warrior Games are an adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. Approximately 265 athletes representing teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Command, United Kingdom Armed Forces and the Australian Defence Force competed June 30 – July 8 in archery, cycling, track, field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming and wheelchair basketball.

Educators from South Texas on the flight deck of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) during Navy Recruiting District San Antonio’s annual Educators Orientation Visit, or EOV.  The EOV is a Navy Recruiting Command program with a main focus of showing educators the various facets of the Navy and the many career paths available to students. The group visited Naval Base San Diego, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron THREE FIVE (HSM-35), BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) Training at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, the Pacific Beacon Navy Billeting, the Fleet Readiness Center, Coastal Riverine Group ONE, and the Navy Exchange.

Vietnam-era Army medic sees son promoted; receives Silver Star

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commanding general of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), pins the Silver Star on Edward Iannuccilli during a ceremony July 7 at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. The Silver Star had been awarded to then-Spec. 4 Iannuccilli but never presented. Iannuccilli, a combat medic in Vietnam, survived a medical evacuation crash April 7, 1970, then, disregarding the flames and exploding ammunition inside the helicopter, made several attempts before successfully rescuing the pilot. The pilot, and several other members of his unit, 159th Medical Evacuation Company, or Dustoff, attended the award ceremony, which coincided with Iannuccilli’s son, Michael, being promoted to lieutenant colonel.

Kristi Morris of the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston are recipients of the 2016 American Society of Military Comptrollers Achievement Awards presented May 31 at the National Professional Development Institute, ASMC’s premier training event.
