MilTax: Military OneSource offers free tax prep

The Defense Department’s Military OneSource will kick off its MilTax resources Jan. 22, 2020. Service members and their families can use MilTax to submit their own taxes electronically, or talk with a tax consultant to have tax forms filled out. It’s free.

Army ROTC cadets with 5th Brigade, U.S. Army Cadet Command from Saint Mary’s University supported the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game at the Alamodome in downtown San Antonio Jan. 4. Cadets had the opportunity to run the exhibit, share their Army ROTC experiences and be the face of Army ROTC. Cadets support events, volunteer in their community and learn to lead through hands-on training.

During a visit to Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Grinston joined senior Army noncommissioned officers from across the post during a morning Physical Readiness Training led by U.S. Army North, Jan. 15.  The visit was an opportunity to show how leaders here are preparing to tackle the upcoming Army Combat Fitness Test. The test, which will become the required physical test of record effective October 2020, is designed to transform the culture of Army fitness to ensure Soldiers are fit to fight.

HPV vaccine now recommended for those up to age 45

Recent CDC and FDA guidance recommends that men and women up to 45 years of age get vaccinated to protect against the Human papillomavirus, or HPV. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection and can cause certain cancers and genital warts. More than 14 million new HPV infections occur in the U.S. each year, and about 80 percent of sexually active men and women are infected with HPV at some point in their lives.

MEDCoE starts new operationally focused paramedic pilot course

Sgt. 1st Class Reid Carpenter, a past flight paramedic instructor, wirelessly adjust the setting of a medical patient simulator as two Army Health Care Specialists (68W), also known as combat medics, practice treating an injured patient inside a UH-60 Blackhawk trainer. The life-sized trainer offers students the opportunity of realistic classroom exercises emulating the sound, wind, and stressful environment of an actual helicopter. These concepts were transferred to the new Combat Paramedic Course pilot program that began in January.

CBD can trigger positive drug test
