IMCOM commanding general visits Europe garrisons

By Mark Heeter

Lt. Gen. Omar Jones IV, commanding general of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, visited garrisons across Europe recently, recognizing and thanking the entire Installation Directorate-Europe workforce, while also reminding them of the importance of the work they do.

“What happens in Europe is important to our nation, to NATO, and to our partners across the theater. Your work here makes a difference every day for Army People and the readiness of our mission partners. And I want to personally thank you for your service,” Jones said to the staff of ID-Europe on the first day of his five-day visit.

After sharing time with garrison employees at U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden, Headquarters of U.S. Army Europe and Africa, Jones and Copeland headed east to visit the newest garrison in the Army in Poznan, Poland.

While in Poland, Jones laid out a vision for the garrison to mature into an organization that provides quality services and infrastructure to the Soldiers and civilians it supports.

“In the coming years, I see USAG Poland continuing to evolve to provide the same exceptional support for Soldiers and civilians serving in Poland and to the formations training here as we do on 79 other installations around the world,” he said.

From Poland, the leaders moved on to spend time with the Area Support Activity Black Sea team at at Mihail Kogălniceanu (MK) Air Base, Romania, which has been critical to successes on NATO’s eastern flank for several years, but most especially since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

“The past 18 months reinforced what we have known for the past two decades, MK Air Base is important to our national interests, to our Romanian partners, and to all of NATO,” Jones said while at MK Air Base.

“I know there is a tremendous amount of work being done by IMCOM professionals here every day. The impact of that effort on quality of life and readiness is clear. I thank each and every one of you for your efforts. And I thank our Romanian hosts for their strong partnership,” he said.

The pair finished their visit in the German state of Bavaria, where both served earlier in their careers, visiting and thanking the teams at USAG Ansbach and the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort, one of the four Armed Forces Recreation Centers around the world.

“We were honored to have Lt. Gen. Jones and Command Sgt. Maj. Copeland come not only to see all the outstanding work that our garrisons do supporting our Soldiers, families, civilians and retirees, but also to remind us of the importance of the work they do every day,” said Tommy Mize, ID-Europe Director.
