149th Fighter Wing welcomes new commander

149th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

The 149th Fighter Wing, Texas Air National Guard, held a change of command ceremony between Col. Matthew Jensen, outgoing commander, and Col. Carol Kohtz, incoming commander, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland May 20, 2023.

Kohtz is the first female wing commander in the Texas Air National Guard. Jensen was the commander of the 149th Fighter Wing for two years and retired after more than 25 years with the Air Force.

The 149th Fighter Wing is the premier training unit for F-16 fighter pilots with the mission of producing the finest Airmen for global engagements and domestic operations. The 149th FW has been flying fighter aircraft since 1947 and flying F-16s since 1985.
