'Developing Mach-21 Airmen' explores Pilot Training Next 2.0
March 19, 2019 - The fifth episode of "Developing Mach-21 Airmen," Air Education and Training Command's podcast series, was released March 18. In the episode, Lt. Col. Paul Vicars, the director of Pilot Training Next, sits down to discuss the second iteration of AETC’s innovative and experimental approach to learning, based at the Armed Forces Reserve Center near the Austin-Bergstrom (Texas) International Airport.

Fort Sam Houston Museum planning exhibit improvements for 2019
A 100-year-old serape given to U.S. Army Gen. Hugh Scott from famed Mexican Revolution leader Pancho Villa in the mid-1910s will be put on display next to an exhibit at the Fort Sam Houston about Villa, the Mexican Revolution (1910-20), the relationship between Villa and the U.S. and the troubles along the U.S.-Mexico border during that time period. The display of the serape is one of several updates and additions the museum is making to its exhibits this year.
March 19, 2019 - The Fort Sam Houston Museum is updating and adding new exhibits that will help visitors expand their knowledge on the history of the post and of U.S. military history.

Collaborative medicine saves BAMC sickle cell patient
Air Force Master Sgt. Antwan Piper looks at his wife, Alexis, during a video interview about her disease and her recovery at Brooke Army Medical Center. Alexis Piper has had sickle cell anemia since she was 7 years old. She nearly died in 2018 after developing a rare condition called hyperhemolysis. Hyperhemolysis syndrome is a potentially fatal transfusion complication.

You call 911 for help and crawl down a flight of stairs so paramedics don’t have to break down the door. This is exactly what happened to 36-year-old Alexis Piper, who has been battling sickle cell anemia since she was 7 years old.

March 18, 2019 - The director of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Advisory Committee on Women Veterans was guest speaker for a Women’s’ History Month event led by Navy Medicine Training Support Center’s Diversity Committee and Soldiers assigned to the 106th Signal Brigade at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 13.

Peruvian Army's commanding general visits U.S. Army South
Gen. Jorge Céliz, Peruvian Army commanding general, visited Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 26-27 to engage U.S. Army medical and maneuver centers to advance interoperability during Peruvian Army transformation. During his visit, he was able to see the educational capabilities provided by Brooke Army Medical Center, the Center of the Intrepid and many others.

Salt Lake City educators visit Army South
The Salt Lake City U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion brought 10 educators from their area of responsibility to Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 6-7 to learn about the educational opportunities the Army provides to their Soldiers, hosted by U.S. Army South. The educators were able to see some of training provided to the Brooke Army Medical Center staff.
March 18, 2019 - U.S. Army South hosted 10 educators from Salt Lake City at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 6-7 to learn about the educational opportunities the Army provides to medical Soldiers. The Salt Lake City U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion brought the educators to JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.
