Air Force ROTC cadet pursues dream career as pilot, uses height waiver process

Members from 19th Air Force, surgeon general’s office and 99th Flying Training Squadron instructor pilot conduct a cockpit assessment on a pilot candidate from a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps detachment who does not meet minimum height standards to be an Air Force pilot.  Once a candidate is selected for a pilot slot, they will have their Initial Flying Class I physical exam, which automatically places a candidate into the waiver process, if they do not meet height standards.

Boxer 22 anniversary honors sacrifice, courage, determination

Dec. 5 marks the 50th anniversary of a flying mission that went very wrong during the Vietnam War. On that morning in 1969, two F-4 Phantoms from the 12th Tactical Fighter Wing, assigned to the 558th Tactical Fighter Squadron, launched from Nakhon Phanom Air Base for a bombing mission over Laos. Only one aircraft made it back. Capt. Ben Danielson piloted the second F-4 – call sign Boxer 22 – with 1st Lt. Woodrow Bergeron Jr. in his back seat. As Danielson lined up his target, enemy anti-aircraft fire tore through the F-4 and immediately set it ablaze.

It’s that time of year again, when the warm summer fades into autumn chills and frosty winters. The skies become grayer and the sun barely shines. For some, autumn and winter are welcome breaks from the summer heat; but for others, the change in seasons may cause dread. Some individuals suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, also referred to as Depressive Disorder, with the seasonal pattern. As the name suggests, it’s a form of depression that occurs during the seasonal change, particularly after summer until spring.
