Joint Base San Antonio selects 2021 Fiesta Air Force ambassadors

Joint Base San Antonio has selected two Airmen to represent the Air Force in the city’s annual Fiesta celebration. Tech. Sgts. Arturo Gomez Jr. and Lateshia Burgess will serve as Air Force ambassadors for Fiesta 2021, scheduled to take place April 15-25.

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commanding general for U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), recognizes Tech. Sgt. Ryan Fillweber during the Army Day at the Alamo celebration April 23, for his actions during the April 22 Texas Cavaliers River Parade. Fillweber, a military ambassador during the 2019 Fiesta San Antonio celebrations, jumped off his barge and into the San Antonio River to save a woman who had fallen head-first into the river and was unable to right herself.

The U.S. Army in San Antonio serves as the military coordinator for Fiesta this year. Brig. Gen. Bill Boruff took part in this morning's media event on behalf of Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, the Army North  commanding general. Boruff is the commanding general for the Mission and Installation Contracting Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. The 128th Fiesta San Antonio takes place April 18-28 and includes more than 100 events that showcase San Antonio's rich multicultural heritage. Fiesta began in 1891 to honor the heroes of the Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. Two service members representing each military service serve as military ambassadors and take part in more than 50 Fiesta events.
