Dr. Basil A. Pruitt Jr., former commander and director of the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, will be presented the “Icon in Surgery” award and appointed 2nd vice president of the American College of Surgeons during the annual surgical meeting in San Diego, Calif.

A road at the logisitical support area just south of Mosul, Iraq, was named after retired navy Capt. (Dr.) Frank Butler to honor his contributions to tactical combat causualty care. Butler is chairman  of the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care and chief of prehospital trauma at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.
