Missing Korean War POW finally laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery

The remains of Cpl. Luis Patlan Torres are brought to the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery by the Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Caisson Section Jan. 13. Torres was missing in action as a prisoner of war in South Korea since 1950.

Volunteer honor guard fills need at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery

The Fort Sam Houston Memorial Services Detachment is made up of 100 volunteers who perform full military honors for veterans interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The average member's age is 70 and includes veterans from World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and First and Second Gulf Wars. To date, the MSD has rendered honors at more than 32,000 military funerals.

The Fort Sam Houston Caisson Platoon transports the remains of retired Brig. Gen. Michael E. Leeper to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Jan. 19. Leeper passed away in December 2015 at the age of 98.
