Veterans Day events abound around Military City USA
November 1, 2019
Military personnel and members from the community attended a wreath presentation ceremony at The Alamo in San Antonio Nov. 10. The ceremony was part of the Veterans Day parade held to honor veterans and current active duty Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen and Marines.

Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service director meets service members, veterans at Hiring Heroes Career Fair

Ronna Garrett, Department of Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service executive director, gets ready to present the opening remarks at the Hiring Heroes Career Fair in the Sam Houston Community Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 21. In her remarks, Garrett praised service members and their families for the sacrifices they have and continue to make and urged employers at the fair to look closely at the attributes and skills of transitioning service members and veterans for career opportunities. In addition, Garrett met with human resource directors who serve commands and agencies within JBSA to discuss human resource policies and priorities for military civilian employees.

Veterans not forgotten during the holidays
January 4, 2018
Five hundred packages were delivered to the San Antonio Military Medical Center and Center for the Intrepid, 200 packages went to the Audie L. Murphy Veteran Affairs Hospital, 200 to the Army Residence Community, 200 to the Wounded Warrior Project, and the remaining 100 went to the Join Base San Antonio-Lackland Fisher House.

Volunteer honor guard fills need at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery

The Fort Sam Houston Memorial Services Detachment is made up of 100 volunteers who perform full military honors for veterans interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The average member's age is 70 and includes veterans from World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and First and Second Gulf Wars. To date, the MSD has rendered honors at more than 32,000 military funerals.
