JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas –
A retired Airman wants to share his love for baseball and create some team spirit here.
Ron Moore, who retired from active duty in 1993 and moved to San Antonio in June 2013 from upstate New York, is the new head coach for the JBSA-Lackland Warhawks Baseball Team. He has over 20 years of experience playing and coaching at the high school, college and inter-service level.
"I want to get young Airmen together to promote teamwork and camaraderie," he explained. "We are going to represent JBSA-Lackland and the military in a positive light out in the community," he added.
He encourages male active duty, civilians, dependents and retirees 18 years of age and older with prior baseball experience to join the practices, which are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 1 p.m. at Warhawk Field.
He advises participants to bring personal gear such as gloves, bats, shoes, etc.
The team will play 20 regular season games in the San Antonio Men's Senior Baseball League in March.
"Depending on the availability of our players, we may be entering some weekend tournaments outside of the league," Moore, who moved here from upstate New York, said.
