Tops in Blue to perform here Sept. 9

By Airman 1st Class Katie Hickerson 12th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs

The Air Force's touring entertainment group, Tops in Blue, will perform a one-night-only, free musical show Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. between Hangars 4 and 5.

The show, titled "The Fly By," commemorates 60 years of Air Force history through a high-tech media extravaganza.

The night's performance will begin with a selection of big hits from the 1940s and move through each decade of music portraying it through song, dance and costume.

"The show is told as a story through music that Airmen old and new grew up singing and listening to," said Shelta Reese, 12th Services Division marketing director. "Audiences will be taken back as the show visually and musically winds its way through six decades of historical footage, with songs sung from each decade."

Stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, the members of Tops in Blue perform at Air Force bases and locations throughout the world.

"Tops in Blue has more than 50 years of touring tradition, visiting bases in the U.S. and more than 25 foreign countries," Ms. Reese said. "Its aggressive tour schedule spans more than 120 locations and includes entertaining forward-deployed troops in Iraq, Qatar, Afghanistan and Kuwait.

The event will be open for patrons no earlier than 7:15 p.m. and bleacher seating will be available on a first come, first-serve basis. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or portable chairs. Beverages will be available for purchase at the event.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to a hangar.
