RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
The honors keep coming for the Randolph High School Ro-Hawks football team, who had two players selected to the Associated Press Class 2A All-State football team recently.
Aaron Applewhite, who led the Ro-Hawks with 1,943 yards rushing and 33 touchdowns this season, made First Team Offense at running back, and linebacker Lance Copeland was named Honorable Mention Defense.
Applewhite and Copeland, both seniors, helped lead the Ro-Hawks to the District 29-2A title, an 11-1 record and a bi-district championship. The Ro-Hawks had their first undefeated regular season in 17 years and won their fourth district title in five seasons.
Applewhite finished his high school career as the fourth-leading rusher in the city this season, and his 1,943 yards rushing in a single season set a school record.
Besides earning All-State honors, Applewhite made the San Antonio Express-News All-City Sub-5A First Team. In addition, he was unanimously named the District 29-2A MVP by district coaches.
Copeland was also honored for his achievements off the field. For the work he is doing in the classroom Copeland was selected to the Texas High School Coaches Association Class 2A Academic All-State First Team. Copeland was one of 51 Class 2A players around the state to be selected to the first team.
District coaches recognized Copeland for his play on the field as well. Copeland, who also was an offensive lineman for the Ro-Hawks, was selected to the district first team on both offense and defense.
