RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –
While fireworks displays at both Randolph and Lackland Air Force Bases have been canceled this year, in response to the San Antonio Fire Department's determination July 23 that public displays in the city be canceled. Randolph officials, however, hope community members still choose to celebrate July Fourth on base.
"Our Independence Day celebration will still kick off at 5 p.m. with free games, free crafts and inflatable rides for the kids and a free concert from Texas' own country-rock band Two Tons of Steel," Col. Scott Peel, 902nd Mission Support Group and Randolph AFB installation commander, said. "We at Randolph look forward to hosting our community to a great time on our nation's most patriotic holiday. The dry conditions in the area certainly can't diminish our spirit of celebration."
DoD ID holders should enter via the Main Gate and must keep ID on them at the event.
No cell phone use is permitted while driving on base. Attendees should expect security forces' search of vehicles and hand-carried items such as handbags, diaper bags, camera bags, etc.
NO coolers, picnic baskets, backpacks, weapons, bicycles, skateboards, personal fireworks or pets.
