JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston will host the Great Texas Freedom Fest on April 12, 2025, from 3-9:30 p.m. The free, public event celebrates the theme "United in Service" and invites visitors to explore the historic military installation while enjoying entertainment, demonstrations and family activities.
The event will feature live music from The Spazmatics, the Air Force’s Band of the West, and the 323rd Army Band, “Fort Sam’s Own.” Military demonstrations will include United States Air Force military working dogs and Air Force Special Warfare teams.
Interactive experiences include STEM displays, fitness challenges, museum tours and family-friendly events. A selection of food trucks will offer diverse cuisine options throughout the festival.
Gates open to the public at 1 p.m. via the Harry Wurzbach East and West gates. Department of Defense ID cardholders may also enter through the Walters Gate. Event personnel will direct visitors to designated parking areas.
Rideshare drop-offs will be at the Holiday Inn Express, building 592, at 3825 Dickman Road. Pick-ups must occur outside the Harry Wurzbach East Gate at Winfield Scott Road. Rideshare users should be prepared to walk off base. ADA shuttle services will be available.
On April 8, all vehicles must be removed from parking areas near MacArthur Parade Field, the Johnson PT track, and the flagpole. Vehicles remaining after that date may be towed. On April 12, Stanley and Dickman roads will close at 11 a.m. to through traffic.
Prohibited items include weapons, outside food and drinks, coolers, and pets, except for service animals. All bags will be inspected at entry.
