ALEXANDRIA, Virginia –
Travelers planning to enter the United States with a dog or cat should review updated U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention importation regulation.
The changes address recent challenges seen with international dog importations, including the challenges posed by fraudulent documentation, and aim to protect the health and safety of people and animals and prevent the reintroduction of dog rabies to the U.S.
People can determine what rules apply to your dog based on the dates of travel and where your dog is traveling from using the CDC’s decision tool, DogBot. For more information visit the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/index.html.
