JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas –
To commemorate the 22-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston is hosting a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 7:46 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Main Flagpole on Stanley Road.
The ceremony is open to all Department of Defense personnel, as well as civilians with access to the installation. For military members, uniform is their duty uniform. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the Fort Sam Houston Theater, building 2270, on Stanley Road.
Please note Stanley Road will be closed in both directions from 6:30 a.m. until the event is over. The ceremony will include a flag formation, a moment of silence, an invocation and a speaker. Those planning to attend should be in place by 7:30 a.m.
The particular time of 7:46 a.m. Central time was chosen as that was when Flight 11 crashed into the north face of the North Tower (1 WTC) of the World Trade Center in New York City, between floors 93 and 99, at 8:46 a.m. Eastern time on Sept. 11, 2001.
