BAMC to host Military Retiree Appreciation Day Nov. 5

By BAMC Public Affairs

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, Brooke Army Medical Center and Joint Base San Antonio will once again host a Military Retiree Appreciation Day from 8 a.m. to noon on Nov. 5 at the BAMC Medical Mall.

The event is free and open to military retirees of all branches, family members, widows and widowers, and surviving family members. It is also open to those transitioning into retirement, their spouses and active duty members.

Services will include military and community health and wellness information and resources, medical and dental screenings, pharmacy services, skin cancer checks, screening mammograms, prescription glasses (if the prescription is less than a year old), ID card services, vaccinations including flu and COVID-19, and much more. (Note: For mammograms, TRICARE beneficiaries who receive their care from the network will need a written referral with a fax number from their provider to be screened.)

Maria Guerrero, BAMC’s chief of Patient Experience and event coordinator, said the event will be an easily accessible, one-stop wealth of resources.

“This event is very important to our retirees and their family members,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to get caught up on vaccinations and other screenings while receiving important education and information. At past events, I’ve had patients tell me they are in heaven because they could get their healthcare updated all in one day. We look forward to caring for our retirees and their families this weekend!”

Participating services include volunteer opportunities, walk-in ID card services, Retiree Activities Office, casualty and mortuary exchange services, Bexar County Veteran Services, Department of Veteran Affairs, Texas Veterans Commission, San Antonio Veteran Center, South Texas Veteran Affairs, information booth and more.
