37th TRSS Faculty Development Flight launches digital badging

37th raining Support Squadron Faculty Development Flight

The 37th Training Support Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland is now issuing Open Badges for faculty development coursework powered by Badgr’s digital badging solution. According to Badgr, “An Open Badge is a specialized type of digital badge that contains verifiable metadata about achievements according to a common data format, the Open Badges specification.”

Upon completion of faculty development courses, graduates receive a digital badge in addition to their traditional paper-based certificate of completion. Since launching the initiative, 194 graduates have earned digital badges to offer an authenticated visual way to recognize professional development accomplishments vital to their careers.

Earners create a free Badgr account to store their digital badge in a Badgr Backpack service which they can also use to store digital badges earned from any Open Badge platform.

The 37th TRSS digital badge is a digital image uniquely linked to data hosted on Badgr’s platform offering real-time verification of specific evidence of what earners had to do to earn their credential.

“Digital badging is an innovative way for Airmen to showcase faculty development accomplishments and achievements across online platforms such as LinkedIn, digital resumes, and social media sites,” said Dr. Lisa Rich, Chief, 37th TRSS Faculty Development.

In addition to issuing a digital badge for the Basic Instructor Course, 37TRSS FacD issues digital badges for the following courses: Training Supervisor, Training Development, Training Management, Technical Writer, and Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. The 37th TRSS FacD plans to add badges for additional professional development accomplishments in an ongoing manner.

“Our goal in the TRSS FacD Flight is to not only develop and prepare world-class learning professionals but to lead the way here at JBSA-Lackland regarding higher education and private industry trends. We want our graduates, regardless of service, to be postured for professional opportunities in every stage of their career -- inside and outside of the Department of Defense,” said Maj. Christopher Bush, 37th TRSS commander.
