UPDATE: JBSA extends closure for non-emergency personnel

502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Update:

Due to inclement weather and adverse road conditions, JBSA will be closed to non-emergency personnel on Wednesday, February 17.  Emergency Mission Essential personnel should receive official reporting instructions from their leadership.  In addition, Commissary and Exchange Mission Critical and Mission Essential personnel are authorized to report and should receive official reporting instructions from their leadership.

We understand and acknowledge the concerns of the community and are continuously working to ensure the safety and well-being of Team JBSA. We appreciate the flexibility, determination, and cooperation of our team members and are asking our mission partners and installation leads to keep an open line of communication with their personnel on- and off-base in order to find a best way-forward for any issues.

Due to the severe weather and adverse road conditions in and around Joint Base San Antonio, the installation commander has extended JBSA closure for non-emergency personnel on Feb. 17, 2021.

JBSA will continue to reduce non-emergency services and support during this time. All personnel are encouraged to remain off the roads and take proper cold-weather safety precautions. If you must travel, allow plenty of time and drive safely.

Emergency Mission Essential Personnel should receive official reporting instructions from their leadership.

Weather and safety leave is authorized. Civilians should work with their supervisor to determine leave or telework as appropriate.

JBSA is experiencing rolling blackouts with the city. Temperatures in facilities have been lowered to assist the city in reduced energy consumption.

If you are traveling to JBSA anticipate delays as gate operations are reduced. The gates open are all 24/7 gates and the JBSA-Lackland Growden Gate/Commercial from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, the Wilson and New Braunfels gates on Fort Sam Houston will remain closed. Current gate information can be found here: https://www.jbsa.mil/Gate-Hours/.

Installation leadership continues to monitor weather conditions to determine additional closures or modified services.
