JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texa —
Approximately 30 students from Texas A&M University-San Antonio toured the Air Force’s Personnel Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Nov. 30 to get a first-hand understanding of the Premier College Intern Program, or PCIP.
The PCIP is a Secretary of the Air Force initiative that focuses on recruiting high caliber, professional college students who are seeking a career with the Air Force Civilian Service and provides them with real-world experience.
“The goal of this visit was to introduce the Premier College Intern Program to students in the local area who could potentially fill positions here at AFPC,” said Ed Bujan, PCIP recruiting manager. “The Air Force hires 12,000 new civilian Airmen to join the Air Force team annually. College students and graduates are key to mission success.”
During the tour, students visited different sections of AFPC where they learned about human resources specialties including benefits and entitlements, classification and staffing.
Students must be a sophomore or junior currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in order to apply for the PCIP, a 10-12 week full-time paid summer internship. The internship provides the students with knowledge and skills to have a successful career with the Air Force Civilian Service.
“What I really want from this program is to be a part of a team that will help you and lead you. I want to be a part of a team that excels, and that’s what you do here in the Air Force,” said Alma Castillo, Texas A&M University-San Antonio student and soon-to-be PCIP intern. “This is a great program and I’m really excited to begin my internship this summer.”
Upon graduation, a PCIP participant may be placed in the Palace Acquire or other similar training program to transition to a permanent position within the Air Force Civilian Service in career fields such as financial management, civil engineering, communications and information, contracting, force support, science and engineering, intelligence and logistics.
“We will train you and provide you with the skills to achieve whatever you want to achieve,” said Kimberly Toney, AFPC executive director, when she addressed the group. “We want to develop you, we want you to be challenged and most importantly we want you to love what you do every day.”
